Microsoft Access is a practical tool for creating and managing databases, ideal for businesses that want to organise information, processes and reports in a single, easy-to-use environment. With Access, users can create tables, queries, forms, reports and automations that support the day-to-day running of the business.

The course is designed around the participants’ level and your company’s real needs, so that the training focuses on practical examples such as customer registers, task tracking, inventory management, internal data-entry forms and report production.

Access Basic

The basic level is for users who want to get to know the philosophy of databases and learn how to organise information in a more structured and reliable way than with plain files or spreadsheets.

By the end of this module, participants will be able to create simple databases, design basic tables, enter and filter data, and create simple queries, data-entry forms and reports for printing or internal use.

Typical topics include:

  • Basic principles of how Microsoft Access works

  • Understanding the basic objects of a database

  • Creating tables and organising fields properly

  • Data types, basic field properties and data-entry rules

  • Sorting, searching and filtering data

  • Creating relationships between tables

  • Creating and using basic queries

  • Creating simple forms for entering and viewing data

  • Creating basic reports for presenting and printing information

  • Calculated fields in forms and reports

Access Advanced

The advanced level is for users who already know Access’s basic functions and want to design more complete, reliable and functional databases for real business needs.

As part of this module, a practical scenario from your company’s daily life can be chosen, so that participants design a complete Access application step by step, understanding the process from initial design to final use.

Typical topics include:

  • Designing more complex queries and combining data from multiple tables

  • Using design view for tables, queries, forms and reports

  • Improving database structure and basic principles of sound design

  • Data-entry quality control and limiting errors in the data

  • Designing complex forms and subforms

  • Creating complex reports and subreports

  • Importing data from other programs and external sources

  • Exporting data for use in reports, Excel or other applications

  • Creating macros for simple automation

  • Basic practices for maintaining, securing and organising a database

Access Expert / VBA

The Expert / VBA level is for advanced users who want to use Access as a tool for building more complex applications, with automation, custom functions and better control of the user experience.

The syllabus is set after a meeting with your company’s managers, so that users’ real needs are identified and a programme is designed that will support your business’s specific processes, automations and applications.

Typical topics include:

  • The programming environment and basic principles of VBA in Access

  • Creating custom functions and procedures

  • Automating repetitive actions and daily tasks

  • Programmatic control of forms, buttons and elements of the graphical interface

  • Creating more dynamic forms for searching, filtering and entering data

  • Communicating with external data sources and other applications

  • Improving the functionality, reliability and usability of Access applications

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, organise and evolve Access databases that support real needs for entering, searching, analysing and reporting data.

How it works

Every training course is designed from scratch

  1. Preparatory meeting

We analyse your company’s processes and particularities, and agree with you on the syllabus you need.

  2. The training

No off-the-shelf course packs. Examples drawn from your employees’ real day-to-day work.

  3. Support afterwards

Participants have our support email address available for any questions that come up.

  4. Follow-up meeting

About a month later, a two-hour meeting to address whatever came up in practical use.
